New Year, New Mindset: The Journey to Bad Girl Fit

Introduction

Welcome to a transformative New Year, a threshold of new beginnings and endless possibilities. In our "New Year, New..." series (click here for last week’s post, New Year, New Habits – Embracing Powerful Routines), we’re exploring what I call a mindset movement: Bad Girl Fit. This movement is not just a concept; it's a response to a common thread woven through the lives of countless women I've had the privilege to coach. Women, who have dared to dream big but have realized that to turn these dreams into reality, a significant shift in their mindset is essential. Bad Girl Fit is my answer to this – a set of principles to guide women, especially moms, through the often challenging journey of personal transformation.

The Genesis of Bad Girl Fit

The Inspiration Behind the Movement

In my coaching experiences, I've met many women grappling with the constraints of societal norms and personal doubts. They possessed ambitious goals but often felt confined within the boundaries of traditional mindsets. This observation sparked a realization: there was a profound need for a mindset movement tailored for women, one that would empower them to break free from these constraints and embrace their full potential.

Redefining 'Fit'

Bad Girl Fit is a play on words, a deliberate choice to step away from the conventional understanding of 'fitness.' It's not about physical prowess but about fitting comfortably in your own narrative - your skin, culture, dreams, and ambitions. It's a movement for those who dare to redefine standards, who are brave enough to reshape their destinies, and who are ready to embrace a new chapter of empowerment.

Deep Dive into the Bad Girl Fit Mindset

Embracing Our Full Potential

The journey to embodying the Bad Girl Fit mindset begins with a deep, introspective look at our potential. It's about challenging the doubts and fears that have held us back, acknowledging our strengths, and realizing that our dreams are not just valid but achievable.

Strategies for Empowering Mindset Shifts

1. Developing Mindful Awareness: It starts with mindfulness – being aware of our thought patterns and how they influence our actions. This awareness is the first step towards transforming thoughts that have been barriers into bridges towards our goals.

2. The Power of Continuous Learning: Every experience, good or bad, is a learning opportunity. Adopting a mindset of continuous growth allows us to transform challenges into valuable lessons, building resilience and wisdom along the way.

3. Cultivating a Supportive Community: The people around us can significantly impact our mindset. By surrounding ourselves with individuals who uplift and support our growth, we create an environment conducive to positive change.

Living the Pledges of Bad Girl Fit

The pledges of Bad Girl Fit are at the core of this movement. While we have only introduced the first seven pledges (Sequence 1), there are 14. They are more than just affirmations; they are powerful commitments guiding our daily lives. These pledges encourage us to honor our roots, celebrate our uniqueness, and live authentically. But more importantly, they encourage us to not sacrifice ourselves or pieces of ourselves so that others can live. Here are the initial seven:

  1. I pledge to not be a martyr. I work “to life,” not death.

  2. I pledge to mind my greens: mustards, collards, and dollars—claiming both my culture and wealth without apology.

  3. I pledge to accept all the ways that I am the shit: defying odds, solving problems, birthing ideas and/or lives. I call bullshit on the things, people, and situations that try to convince me that I deserve anything less than what I’m aiming for…I probably deserve so much more.

  4. I pledge to two-step, wine, and twerk across my milestones and finish lines because success is a dance--no matter how difficult the moves or the number of steps back I have to take, I dance across my goals, not fall out or get dragged.

  5. I pledge to walk with the people, things, and ideas that I value, making sure my actions align with what I say matters most to me; and if they don’t, I commit to either changing my actions, company, and thoughts or changing what I say I value.

  6. I pledge to set and own a standard of beauty that includes me at the center--imperfections and all--while making room for others to include themselves in their standard.

  7. I pledge to drink water and to move fluidly through life. I move over, around, and under barriers, knowing that my flow can’t be stopped.

The Daily Practice of Pledges

Embracing these pledges means integrating them into our daily routines. It's about making conscious choices that reflect our commitments to ourselves. It's a practice that fosters self-love, confidence, and a deep sense of purpose.

Overcoming Challenges on the Path

Adopting the Bad Girl Fit mindset is not without its challenges. It involves confronting and overcoming internal and external obstacles. This part of the journey is about resilience, learning to navigate through adversities with grace and strength.

Strategies for Overcoming Obstacles

1. Challenging Negative Self-Talk: We often are our harshest critics. Transforming negative self-talk into positive affirmations is a crucial step in adopting the Bad Girl Fit mindset.

2. Embracing Setbacks as Opportunities: Every setback is a setup for a comeback. Viewing challenges as opportunities for growth is integral to the Bad Girl Fit philosophy.

3. Patience and Perseverance: Change doesn't happen overnight. Embracing patience and staying committed to our goals, even when progress seems slow, is key to long-term success.

Conclusion

As we step boldly into 2024, let's embrace the Bad Girl Fit mindset with open hearts and minds. This journey is more than achieving goals; it's about transforming how we perceive ourselves and our roles in this world. It's a call to live powerfully, authentically, and unapologetically.
